A Trip to the Moon, George Melies

The magical "special effects" of Melies are a huge inspiration. We can use similar techniques to create a feeling of fantasy, through interaction of live action onstage with video projections. It will be fanciful and playful. Note the flatness of A Trip to the Moon, its obviously make believe, like a children's illustration. The moon we should appropriate. It references a whole history of cinema. This requires an actor to be the moon for a video. Melies discovered many techniques that are common in video/film editing now, that I can apply:  Dissolves, time lapse photography, multiple exposures, hand-painted film, stop motion animation.
This the original movie:

From the wiki,  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georges_Méliès:
"Because of his ability to seemingly manipulate and transform reality with the cinematography, Méliès is sometimes referred to as the "Cinemagician." Before making films, he was a stage magician at the Theatre Robert-Houdin. In 1895, he became interested in film after seeing a demonstration of the Lumière brothers' camera. In 1897, he established a studio on a rooftop property in Montreuil. Actors performed in front of a painted set as inspired by the conventions of magic and musical theater."
